Aarica & Jordan | Virginia House

Last Saturday, I had the honor of photographing Aarica and Jordan's wedding at the Virginia House in Richmond, Virginia, and let me tell you: it was an absolute dream.

I first spoke with Aarica while on vacation in St. Pete, Florida last year. She found me through Instagram and reached out to chat about her wedding plans. The second she answered the phone with a sweet "Hiii," I just knew she was one of those kind-hearted, gentle souls. Her voice was soft, kind, and warm... the same way she carries herself in person. (You should've seen her around the children at the wedding. An angel!)

During our conversation, she spoke about Jordan with so much tenderness and love: "We met in 7th grade... it's been 12 years already!" These two were clearly made for each other! Aarica also described Jordan’s family and bridal party as the funniest, most energetic group... and she wasn’t kidding! Jordan's mom and Aunt Tracy were the life of the party, and the energy from everyone around them was electric. Aarica also shared how Jordan is the youngest of three brothers and how he thought for sure his brothers would be engaged before him. Well, surprise! haha

These two love all the good things in life: pizza, cakes, pies, cats and spending time outdoors... and they brought all of that joy into their wedding day. They created a whimsical, garden-inspired summer celebration, full of antique and literary touches. There were books scattered throughout the décor (you know how much I loved that!), and even disposable film cameras on the tables so guests could tell the wedding story through their own eyes. The color palette was stunning: light pink, dusty pink, dusty light blue, medium orange, pistachio green, brown, and gold. Honestly? It was magical.

The Virginia House was the perfect venue for their ~65 guests... a romantic English manor right above the James River. It was my first time shooting there, and I was in awe. The gardens are immaculately kept, the historic indoor spaces are preserved with care, and the library? Don’t even get me started. That room was a dream to work in. We did some of their portraits there and I could’ve stayed all day browsing through books and playing with the light.

A special shoutout to Leah, the venue coordinator, who welcomed all of us vendors weeks in advance for a venue tour and was a five-star host on the wedding day.

We had a full summer storm roll in just hours before the ceremony (thank you, Richmond weather!), but it cleared just in time for the most golden ceremony light of the season. I'm so glad I arrived early to settle in and soak up the atmosphere and photograph the venue before the storm, haha!

The vendor team was incredible and played such a huge role in bringing everything to life. Class Act Events handled the coordination. Working with Ursula was such a joy (and she made me laugh so many times throughout the day!). The Native Bloom created the most intentional, sustainably focused floral arrangements that I couldn’t stop photographing. Line and Lace Videography was a dream to work alongside. It felt effortless to collaborate with them. Dame Hair Salon styled Aarica’s hair into something that truly highlighted her graceful features. RVA Wood Fired Pizza served up delicious, crowd-favorite slices (plus beautiful cocktail apps!), and Aces High RVA made sure everyone had a drink in hand. To top it all off, Angelica Jones with Black Tie Entertainment had every guest out on the dance floor, from the grandparents to the children!

The wedding was so good that when I got home, Andre (my husband and second shooter) looked at me and said, "That was just perfect, right?" And I couldn't agree more. I was buzzing with so much joy I had to stop myself from editing previews at 11pm that night (no lie, I almost did!). Instead, I woke up early the next day and dove right in... because how could I not? I ended up delivering hundreds of previews just because I couldn’t stop.

After viewing the previews, Aarica messaged me: "They are INCREDIBLE!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! We can't wait to see the rest! This is already so much and better than I imagined! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️." Her words made my heart swell. This is why I do what I do.

Aarica and Jordan were a joy to work with: thoughtful, organized, and so deeply kind. Aarica shared some photo inspiration beforehand and I think we brought them to life beautifully (especially those veil shots in the library!). There were so many standout moments, but the one I’ll always carry with me is the way Jordan gently wiped away Aarica’s tears as she read her vows... it was one of the most tender moments I’ve ever witnessed.

To Aarica and Jordan: thank you for trusting me with your day, for being your sweet, joyful selves, and for reminding me, once again, why I absolutely love what I do.

You two are a gift.
