Malia & Chris | Richmond Wedding Photographer
I knew Malia and Chris were an amazing fit since our very first meeting at a Starbucks. Because they’re both from Richmond, it was easy to set up in-person meetups to connect and get to know each other better (most of the time I do calls or FaceTime with couples who live outside RVA). Malia is sweet, funny, and peaceful all at once. As she describes Chris — he’s goofy, fun, outgoing, and the kindest man to her (and I agree 100%!). These two couldn’t be more perfect together.
They love traveling and being outdoors — and one of their favorite adventures so far has been their trip to Germany!
In the months leading up to the wedding, there were some surprises — the biggest one being that Malia found out she’s pregnant! Baby Caden is already so loved.
Their wedding day was absolutely perfect. Honestly, I think it was one of the most beautiful spring days we’ve had in 2025 so far. The venue they chose — Meadowbrook Country Club in Chesterfield — was stunning and such a joy to work at. I have to give a huge shoutout to Mickaela and Amy, the venue and day-of coordinators, who were incredibly kind and helpful all day long.
Malia and Chris envisioned a wedding that was warm, joyful, and full of love — and that’s exactly what it was. They chose tones of sage green and champagne (I was obsessed with this color palette!), and throughout the day they incorporated meaningful, personal moments. One of my favorites was their three-ring ceremony with Malia’s daughter, Madison, who is now officially Chris’ stepdaughter. It was such a touching way to honor their new chapter as a family.
When I arrived at Meadowbrook, I started by scouting portrait locations — and wow, the Gillette Gardens completely stole my heart. That’s where we did their first look, surrounded by lush greenery and a beautiful gazebo. It felt peaceful, timeless, and perfect for a couple like them.
Both the ceremony and reception took place inside the Clubhouse, overlooking the gardens. With 130 guests, the space felt full but cozy — and both rooms were filled with natural light (you know I’m all about that!). Each space also opened up to a lovely terrace with views of the gardens, and for golden hour portraits, we had access to the golf course — yes, we even had golf carts thanks to Amy and Mickaela making it all happen! The gardens, fountain, and golf course gave us so many stunning spots to work with.
The energy of the day was calm, happy, and fun — just like Malia and Chris. After dinner, the dance floor opened and it was a full-on celebration! Their family and friends were ready to party, and I had the best time capturing all the laughter, dancing, and unforgettable moments.
But you already know… I cry at every wedding. And this one? The dances got me. Malia and Chris’s first dance was so intimate and full of emotion. And during the father-daughter dance, I completely lost it. Malia was emotional, her dad held her hand to his chest, and it was such a sacred moment. Even now, writing this, I’m getting teary all over again. It’s a gift to witness these chapters in people’s lives — especially when they start feeling like part of mine, too.
Malia and Chris found me on Zola, and I’m forever grateful they did. I photographed their wedding for over 10 hours and loved every second of it. I truly hope I get to stay in their lives for many years to come.
Malia and Chris, may life bring you all the happiness, peace, and abundance your hearts desire. Thank you for trusting me with your story.
