I’m counting down the days until Lana and Garrett’s wedding at The Dominion Club this fall — but until then, I get to relive one of my favorite engagement sessions to date. Their session was filled with soft spring light, blooming cherry blossoms, quiet laughter, and a calm joy that lingered long after we wrapped.

From the very beginning, Lana and Garrett felt intentional and grounded. Their connection is the kind that doesn’t need to be loud to be felt — steady, warm, and deeply genuine.

A Story That Came Full Circle

Lana and Garrett found me through her cousins, Fred and Cameron — one of my past wedding couples — which always feels like such an honor. From our first conversation, it was clear they valued thoughtfulness, meaning, and the little details.

They actually met years ago in high school, in the same class, but didn’t start dating until much later after reconnecting through a dating app. Life has a beautiful way of bringing people back together at the right time, and their story is such a sweet example of that.

They love cooking together, spending time outdoors, and sharing quiet moments that feel effortless. That calm, kind energy carried through their entire engagement session.

An Engagement Session at Maymont Park

When Lana and Garrett shared that they wanted to begin their engagement session at Maymont Park, I was immediately on board. It’s where Garrett proposed, which made it the perfect place to start telling this chapter of their story.

We began in the Italian Garden just as the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The soft pinks and gentle light created such a romantic, peaceful atmosphere. Lana wore a blush pink dress that blended beautifully with the surroundings, making the entire setting feel cohesive and intentional.

The garden felt quiet and unhurried — the kind of place that naturally invites connection and ease.

Timeless Elegance at a Virginia State Capitol Engagement

To close out their session, we headed to the Virginia State Capitol for a change of scenery and tone. Lana changed into a classic white and blue dress, adding a refined, timeless feel to the second half of their engagement photos.

The clean architectural lines and historic details of the Capitol created an elegant contrast to the softness of Maymont. Together, the two locations showed how an engagement session can feel both romantic and polished — without feeling disjointed.
