Aarica & Jordan | Virginia House
Last Saturday, I had the honor of photographing Aarica and Jordan’s wedding at Virginia House in Richmond, Virginia, and it was truly one of those days that stays with you long after you pack up your cameras.
From the very beginning, their celebration felt thoughtful, joyful, and deeply personal — a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple.
Getting to Know Aarica & Jordan
I first spoke with Aarica while I was on vacation in St. Pete, Florida last year. She found me through Instagram and reached out to talk about her wedding plans. The moment she answered the phone with a soft, cheerful “Hiii,” I knew she was one of those kind-hearted, gentle souls. Her warmth came through instantly — and that same kindness radiated throughout her wedding day. (Watching her interact with the children there? Truly angelic.)
As we talked, she spoke about Jordan with so much tenderness.
“We met in 7th grade… it’s been 12 years already.”
These two have grown up together, and that history showed in the way they moved through the day — comfortable, steady, and deeply connected.
She also laughed as she described Jordan’s family and bridal party as the most energetic group she knew — and she wasn’t wrong. Jordan’s mom and Aunt Tracy absolutely lit up the room, and the energy around them was infectious. As the youngest of three brothers, Jordan always thought his older brothers would get engaged first… surprise!
A Whimsical Garden-Inspired Summer Wedding
Aarica and Jordan love the simple joys in life — pizza, cakes, pies, cats, and spending time outdoors — and they wove all of that into their wedding day beautifully.
Their celebration had a whimsical, garden-inspired feel with antique and literary touches throughout. Books were scattered intentionally across the décor (you already know how much I loved that), and disposable film cameras sat on the tables so guests could tell the wedding story through their own eyes.
The color palette was absolutely stunning:
light pink, dusty rose, soft blues, warm orange, pistachio green, brown, and gold.
Magical is the only word that fits.
Virginia House Wedding Venue in Richmond
Virginia House is one of the most romantic Richmond wedding venues, especially for couples drawn to historic architecture, gardens, and intimate celebrations. The venue was the perfect setting for their intimate celebration of about 65 guests. Perched above the James River, this historic English manor offers lush gardens, preserved interiors, and an atmosphere that feels both romantic and timeless.
It was my first time photographing a wedding at Virginia House, and I was completely in awe. The gardens are impeccably maintained, the historic rooms are full of character, and the library — don’t even get me started. We photographed some of their portraits there, and between the books and the light, I could have stayed all day.
A huge shoutout to Leah, the venue coordinator, who welcomed us weeks ahead of time for a tour and was a five-star host on the wedding day itself.
Summer Light, Sudden Storms, and Golden Hour
A full summer storm rolled through just hours before the ceremony (thank you, Richmond weather!), but it cleared right in time for the most beautiful golden ceremony light. I arrived early to soak in the atmosphere and photograph the venue before the rain — and I’m so glad I did.
Moments like that are a reminder that some of the most beautiful light comes after the storm.
A Vendor Team That Brought Everything to Life
This day came together so seamlessly thanks to an incredible vendor team.
Class Act Events handled coordination, and working with Ursula was such a joy — she kept everything running smoothly while making me laugh throughout the day. Native Bloom created intentional, sustainably focused floral arrangements that I couldn’t stop photographing. Line and Lace Videography was effortless to work alongside, and Dame Hair Salon styled Aarica’s hair in a way that perfectly highlighted her graceful features.
RVA Wood Fired Pizza served crowd-favorite slices and gorgeous cocktail appetizers, Aces High RVA kept drinks flowing, and Angelica Jones with Black Tie Entertainment had everyone on the dance floor — from grandparents to kids.
Capturing Their Wedding Day with Intention
From the start, Aarica and Jordan shared how important it was for their wedding to be documented naturally — with emotion, connection, and the small moments that often go unnoticed.
As a Richmond wedding photographer, my goal was to honor both the elegance of their details and the depth of their relationships. From Aarica’s quiet moments with her family, to Jordan’s gentle presence throughout the day, to the laughter shared with friends — everything felt meaningful.
One moment I’ll never forget: Jordan softly wiping away Aarica’s tears as she read her vows. Tender, unfiltered, and deeply real.
A Wedding Day I’ll Always Remember
When I got home that night, Andre (my husband and second shooter) looked at me and said, “That was just perfect, right?” And he was absolutely right.
I was buzzing with joy — so much that I almost started editing previews at 11pm. Instead, I woke up early the next morning and dove in, delivering hundreds of previews simply because I couldn’t stop. Some days just do that to you.
After seeing the previews, Aarica messaged me:
“They are INCREDIBLE!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! We can’t wait to see the rest! This is already so much and better than I imagined!”
That message is exactly why I do what I do.
Aarica and Jordan, thank you for trusting me with your wedding day, for your kindness, and for reminding me once again why I love this work so deeply. You two are truly a gift.
