Olivia and Connor’s wedding day at Historic Whitewood felt like the perfect summer estate wedding.
The white house, the soft blue and white details, the poolside cocktail hour, the white tent, the sparkler exit at the end of the evening… everything came together in such a timeless and beautiful way.
Olivia and Connor are best friends and they wanted to get married surrounded by their closest family and friends, and that is exactly what the day felt like.
Their wedding took place at Historic Whitewood in Powhatan, Virginia, right outside of Richmond. They had around 120 guests, which felt like the perfect size for the venue.
And when I think about Olivia and Connor’s day, I think about their vows by the magnolia tree, the soft blue bridesmaids dresses, Olivia’s detail box, the golden hour, and the fact that these two absolutely owned the dance floor.
I mean…
They have MOVES.
A Historic Whitewood Wedding in Richmond, Virginia
Historic Whitewood has that timeless estate feeling without feeling too formal. The white house is beautiful, the magnolia tree is gorgeous, the getting ready spaces make the day easier, the pool area is perfect for cocktail hour, and the tent gives the reception such a classic summer wedding feeling.
Everything happened in one place, and that made the whole day flow so smoothly.
The girls got ready on site, the guys had their own groom’s den, the ceremony happened right in front of the main house, cocktail hour was by the pool, and the reception was under the tent. No rushing around.
As a Richmond wedding photographer, I always love when a wedding venue gives the couple that kind of flow because it gives us space for the real moments.
The emotional ones. The funny ones. The quiet ones. The ones that happen when nobody feels rushed.
Olivia and Connor
Olivia and Connor met through mutual friends and have been together for over two years now. And from the first time I talked to them, I had a feeling we were going to be such a good fit.
They found me online last year, and even on our first call, everything felt easy. They were kind, excited, and so fun to talk to. Then we had their engagement session at The Estate at River Run, and that made me even more excited for their wedding day because they were so natural together.
They are truly such a sweet pair.
Olivia describes Connor as the bubbly one. Social, outgoing, and the kind of person who makes people feel comfortable right away. Olivia is a little more reserved and low key, but in the most graceful way. And together, they balance each other so well. He brings out her fun side, and she brings such a soft and elegant calm to the two of them.
They described themselves as two peas in a pod, and that honestly makes so much sense!!
They love being outdoors, football, softball, mini golf, and anything that brings out their competitive side (I've heard from more the one person that Olivia is the most competitive one! haha). And I think that playfulness showed up so much on their wedding day. They looked perfect, but they also laughed, danced, played around, and enjoyed every part of it.
A Timeless Blue and White Wedding at Historic Whitewood
Olivia and Connor wanted a timeless wedding with sky blue, white, and greenery.
And it was SO pretty.
The soft blue bridesmaids dresses looked beautiful against the white house and all the greenery around Historic Whitewood. The florals were white, fresh, and classic, and the whole day had this light summer feeling that photographed so beautifully.
And Olivia’s detail box deserves its own little moment. Because she thought about everything.
The invitation suite from Zola, the rings, perfume, shoes, flowers, and little styling pieces were all ready when I arrived. I always love when brides prepare a detail box because it allows me to photograph those pieces intentionally and tell the story of the day from the very beginning.
And Olivia’s details were perfect for the feeling of the day. Soft. Classic.
Her dress from Lambs Hill Bridal Boutique was stunning, and Amanda Perry LLC did such a beautiful job with hair and makeup. The bridesmaids wore Azazie dresses, Connor and the guys wore classic attire from The Black Tux, and everything worked so beautifully with the venue.
But one of the sweetest details was the florals.
Olivia’s mom owns Blooming Boutique Florist in New York, and she created the flowers for the wedding day.
I mean…
How special is that?
There is something so meaningful about a mom putting her hands into the beauty of her daughter’s wedding day. The flowers were already gorgeous, but knowing they were created by Olivia’s mom made them feel even more personal.
First Looks, Family Moments, and the Ceremony
One of the reasons Olivia and Connor’s wedding day felt so smooth is because we had time.
And that does not just happen.
Before the wedding, I created a custom photography timeline so we could plan the day intentionally. Olivia and Connor booked 10 hours of wedding photography coverage, and for their day at Historic Whitewood, that was perfect. It gave us enough time to photograph everything from getting ready until the send off without the day feeling rushed.
Olivia had a first look with her bridesmaids, a first look with her dad, and then a first look with Connor.
And every one of those moments felt different and special.
The bridesmaids were so excited to see her. Her dad’s first look was so sweet. And when Connor saw her, it felt like the day paused for a second in the best way.
I know first looks are not for every couple, but for Olivia and Connor, it made so much sense. They wanted to enjoy the moment.
And because of the timeline, we got all of that.
Their ceremony took place right in front of the main white house at Historic Whitewood, and it was such a beautiful setting.
And one of the sweetest parts was that Connor’s father officiated the ceremony.
There is something so personal about having someone close to you lead that moment. It made the ceremony feel warm, meaningful, and so connected to their families.
They also buried the bourbon before the wedding day.
And listen…
I think it worked.
Because the weather was beautiful, and later in the day, golden hour was absolutely sensational.
Bride and Groom Portraits at Historic Whitewood
My favorite part of the day was Olivia and Connor’s portraits.
No question.
They are so stunning together that I could have photographed them forever.
But, you know…
The guests were waiting to start the reception. Haha.
Historic Whitewood gave us so many beautiful spaces for portraits, but what made their photos so special was really them. Olivia and Connor were sweet, playful, comfortable, and so easy to photograph. They trusted me, had fun with it, and let themselves enjoy those few minutes together.
And that is always when the best portraits happen.
Not when everything is perfect.
But when the couple forgets a little bit about the camera and just focuses on each other.
We had the white house, the magnolia tree, the soft summer light, and then later, that golden hour that made everything feel even more beautiful. Those portraits felt romantic and timeless, but still very them.
And that is what I always want for my couples.
Not photos that feel like they could belong to anyone.
Photos that feel like the two of them.
A Poolside Cocktail Hour and Tented Reception at Historic Whitewood
After the ceremony, guests moved to cocktail hour by the pool, and I loved that part of the day.
It felt summery, relaxed, and perfect for Historic Whitewood. Everyone was able to enjoy the property, talk, drink, and celebrate before moving into the tent for the reception.
And the tent looked beautiful.
1933 Catering served the meal, Pearl’s Bake Shoppe created the cake, Profound Wedding Films captured video, and DJ Rodney Lee kept the night moving.
Audrey Owensby coordinated the day, and truly, she helped everything flow so smoothly. We had time for details, first looks, family photos, portraits, golden hour, and all the reception moments.
And that is such a gift.
Because when the timeline is good and the coordination is smooth, the couple gets to actually enjoy their day.
And Olivia and Connor did.
A Dance Floor Full of Personality
I think the dance floor made very clear how fun Olivia & Connor are.
Because once the reception started, Olivia and Connor were IN IT.
They danced, laughed, sang, celebrated, and fully enjoyed the night with their people.
They have moves, and I loved photographing that side of them. After such a beautiful day, seeing them completely let loose on the dance floor made the night feel even more fun.
I always love when couples allow themselves to enjoy the reception like that. No worrying about looking perfect. No disappearing from the party. Just dancing with their people and making memories in real time.
That is what makes reception photos feel alive.
Wedding Photography Coverage

Because everything happened at Historic Whitewood, we were able to photograph the full story of the day from beginning to end. Getting ready, details, first looks, family photos, wedding party portraits, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception details, golden hour portraits, dancing, and the send off.

It is there to protect the moments.
