When I think of wedding days that feel elegant, meaningful, and full of genuine joy, Anna and Matt’s wedding day in Richmond, Virginia immediately comes to mind.
Their story began online, but it did not take long for it to feel natural. Their first date was at a brewery on a Sunday, and they ended up staying for five hours — which I think says so much about the kind of connection they had from the beginning.
From my very first conversations with them, I could tell Anna and Matt were the kind of couple who are easy to be around. Matt is calm, funny, easygoing, and the perfect blend of serious and silly. Anna is thoughtful, calm, smart, and the kind of person who naturally puts others first.
Together, they love going out to eat, trying new places, taking little field trips, spending time with their two dogs, and enjoying the simple parts of life together. Matt is a movie guy, they love Scott’s Addition, sushi, Italian food, and even teaching each other new things — including volleyball.
Their wedding day felt like such a beautiful reflection of that.
Classic, joyful, personal, and full of the people they love most.
A Romantic Spring Wedding Celebration
As a Richmond wedding photographer, I love documenting wedding days that feel intentional. Anna and Matt’s spring wedding day was exactly that.
It was one of the most beautiful spring days in Richmond, with soft light, fresh flowers, and a romantic color palette that felt perfect for the season.
Their wedding colors were sky blue and blush, with white and soft pink floral accents. Paired with the traditional black tuxedos, everything felt classic, elegant, and timeless.
The morning began at an Airbnb in downtown Richmond, where Anna and her bridesmaids got ready with hair and makeup by Amanda Perry LLC. The space was full of that sweet getting-ready excitement... dresses, details, makeup, bridesmaids, family, and all the little moments that make the morning feel special.
One of the sweetest parts of the morning was seeing Matt’s grandmothers watching Anna and the bridesmaids get ready.
It was such a simple moment, but so meaningful.
They were there quietly taking it all in, watching the day begin, and it added such a tender feeling to the morning.
Another moment that stood out was when Anna gifted her soon-to-be mother-in-law a white and blue tear fabric tissue. The girls gathered around and watched, and it became one of those small but emotional moments that says so much without needing to be big.
It felt thoughtful.
It felt personal.
And it felt very Anna.
Ceremony at St. Bridget Catholic Church
Anna and Matt’s ceremony took place at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Richmond, Virginia.
They chose not to do a first look, which made the ceremony even more meaningful as Matt saw Anna for the first time walking down the aisle.
Their ceremony was beautiful, reverent, and surrounded by family and friends. With around 100 guests attending their wedding day, the room felt full of love, but still personal and warm. Their wedding party included five bridesmaids and five groomsmen, along with parents, grandmothers, and flower girl, making the day feel very family-centered from beginning to end. Â
There is something so beautiful about a church ceremony.
The quiet.
The tradition.
The weight of the moment.
It always reminds me that a wedding day is about the covenant being made.
And Anna and Matt’s ceremony had that feeling.
Tuckahoe Woman’s Club Wedding Venue in Richmond, Virginia
After the ceremony, the celebration continued at Tuckahoe Woman’s Club, a traditional Richmond wedding venue that fit Anna and Matt’s vision so beautifully.
They chose a romantic and classic wedding style, and this venue made so much sense for them. Tuckahoe Woman’s Club as a wedding venue has that timeless Richmond elegance — the kind of setting that does not need to try too hard.
The venue gave us beautiful light, classic indoor spaces, and a garden area that was perfect for portraits.
As a photographer, I loved how every corner of the venue felt traditional and elegant. It photographed beautifully, and the garden gave us a softer, romantic setting for Anna and Matt’s portraits.
They used the auditorium, the garden, and the reception room throughout the celebration, which gave the day a smooth flow from portraits to cocktail hour to reception.
Capturing Their Wedding Day with Intention
Anna and Matt chose the Golden Collection with 10 hours of wedding photography coverage, which was perfect for the way their day was planned with a functional wedding day timeline.
With getting ready photos in downtown Richmond, a ceremony at St. Bridget Catholic Church, portraits at Tuckahoe Woman’s Club, and a full reception, the 10-hour coverage allowed everything to be captured with ease.
Nothing felt rushed.
And that is always so important to me.
My goal on a wedding day is not just to photograph the big moments, but to help my couples actually enjoy them.
I wanted Anna and Matt to feel present, especially during portraits. They were so easy and fun to work with, and I loved giving them space to be themselves — to laugh, walk, hold hands, and just enjoy being newly married.
The best portraits are not always the most posed ones.
They are the ones where a couple feels comfortable enough to let their real connection show.
And Anna and Matt made that easy.
A Reception Full of Joy
The reception at Tuckahoe Woman’s Club was such a fun celebration.
The room was filled with family, friends, soft floral details by Vogue Flowers, a cake by Ukrops, catering by Everyday Gourmet, and music by Seth Casana. Their vendor team also included Natalie Blackmon as coordinator, Ninja Strings, and Party Perfect. Â
But one of the biggest highlights of the night was definitely the dance floor.
Matt is such a natural dancer, and it was so fun to see that side of him come out during the reception.
One of the most memorable moments was his dance with his mom. What started as a sweet mother-son dance turned into a fun surprise dance that made everyone cheer and celebrate.
It brought so much energy into the room.
And honestly, those are the moments I love photographing at receptions.
The unplanned reactions.
The laughter.
The guests clapping.
Anna and Matt’s first dance was also one of my favorite moments of the day. It had that romantic, classic feeling that matched the rest of their wedding so well.
And then the dance floor opened, and everyone had the best time.
A Wedding Day I’ll Always Remember
I left Anna and Matt’s wedding feeling so grateful to have been part of such a beautiful day.
Not only because the venue was elegant, the details were romantic, and the spring weather was perfect — but because the day felt deeply personal.
From Matt’s grandmothers watching the morning unfold, to Anna’s thoughtful gift for her mother-in-law, to the reverence of their ceremony, to the joy of the reception, every part of the day felt connected to who they are.
Anna and Matt, thank you so much for trusting me to photograph your wedding day.
It was such an honor to document this chapter of your story and to witness the love surrounding you both.
I hope St. Lucia was the sweetest beginning to married life, and I hope these photos always bring you back to how beautiful this day felt.
