Rebecca & Raphael’s Maternity Session | Richmond Maternity Photographer

Expecting couple holding hands in a sun-drenched field during a winter maternity session at Richmond Battlefield Park in Richmond, Virginia.

Rebecca and Raphael are not new faces around here.

I photographed their wedding, and now I got to photograph them waiting for their first baby.

I mean…

How sweet is that?

As a Richmond maternity photographer, one thing that holds such a sweet spot in my heart is getting to photograph the same people through different seasons of life. First, as bride and groom. Then as husband and wife. And now, as parents waiting for their baby girl.

And with Rebecca and Raphael, it felt even sweeter because they are not only longtime clients, but friends. They are the kind of people I could spend hours photographing and hanging out with because every second with them is a good laugh.

Truly!

They are so funny together, so easy to be around, and so full of personality that photographing them never has a dull moment. It feels like spending time with friends and somehow getting the sweetest photos in the middle of it.

One of the sweetest parts of this session was that Rebecca wanted to wear her wedding dress again and hold her wedding bouquet for a few of her maternity photos.

And honestly, I loved that so much.

It felt like the most beautiful full-circle moment. The same dress from the day their family story began, now photographed in this new season as they wait for their baby girl.

A Richmond Maternity Session Full of Joy

Rebecca and Raphael’s maternity photos were taken in Richmond, Virginia, in the prettiest golden light. And I loved how relaxed the whole session felt.

Just the two of them — with their parents there to support, and I love them too! — their dogs, laughing, holding each other, walking through the grass, and…

Have I mentioned laughing?

Maternity sessions are so special because they hold such a quiet kind of excitement. You are still waiting. Still wondering what she will look like. Still imagining what life will feel like when she is finally here. And at the same time, everything has already changed.

You are already parents.

You are already loving someone you have not even held yet.

And I think that is what makes maternity photos so, so pretty.

They freeze that in-between season.

The waiting.

The excitement.

The tenderness.

The “we cannot believe this is really happening” feeling.

And for Rebecca and Raphael, that feeling was wrapped in so much joy. Which is honestly very them.

Photographing Longtime Clients Through Different Seasons

One of the things I kept thinking about during this session was how special it is to be invited back.

I never take that lightly.

When someone trusts me to photograph their wedding, that already means so much. But when I get to photograph them again later, in a new season of life, it feels even more personal.

I have watched Rebecca and Raphael in front of my camera engaged, as newlyweds, and now I got to photograph them getting ready to become parents.

And I think this is why I love maternity and family photography so much. Because it is about the story that keeps growing. The same love, but in a different season. The same people, but with a new chapter beginning.

Rebecca and Raphael already have so much joy together, and I just know their daughter is going to grow up surrounded by happiness.

Because if she gets even a little bit of their personality…

She is going to be amazing!!

Why Maternity Photos Are So Important

I know pregnancy can feel like a lot. You are excited, tired, emotional, uncomfortable, happy, overwhelmed, and probably thinking about a thousand things before the baby arrives.

And sometimes, taking maternity photos can feel like one more thing to plan. But I really do believe this season is worth documenting.

Not because everything has to look perfect.

But because this season is short, and one day it will be part of your family’s story.

One day, your baby will look at these photos and see how loved she was before she was even here.

She will see her mom glowing in a field. Her dad holding her mom close. The two of them laughing together.

Waiting for her.

Dreaming about her.

Already completely in love with her.

And that is worth remembering.

A Maternity Session That Felt Like Them

My favorite thing about Rebecca and Raphael’s session was how much it felt like them. Yes, the light was beautiful. Yes, the field was perfect. Yes, Rebecca looked absolutely stunning.

But more than anything, the photos feel like their relationship.

Sweet.

Playful.

Full of laughter.

Rebecca and Raphael, thank you for trusting me again.

From your wedding day to this beautiful season of waiting for your baby girl, it has been such a joy to photograph your story.

You two are some of the funniest, sweetest, most fun people to be around, and I already know your daughter is going to be so loved.

I cannot wait to meet her soon.

And I hope these photos always bring you back to this season. And the last little chapter before you became a family of three.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I schedule maternity photos in Richmond, Virginia?

Most maternity sessions are best between 28 and 34 weeks, when your bump is showing beautifully but you still feel comfortable enough to move around. Every pregnancy is different, so we can always plan the timing based on how you are feeling and what season you want for your photos.

Where can I take maternity photos in Richmond, VA?

Richmond has so many beautiful options for maternity photos, including open fields, gardens, parks, historic locations, and soft natural settings. For Rebecca and Raphael’s maternity session, we used a field with golden light, which gave the photos a warm, natural, and peaceful feeling.

Do you help with posing during maternity sessions?

Yes. I guide you through the whole session so you do not need to know what to do in front of the camera. I help with movement, hands, walking, sitting, and natural posing so the photos feel beautiful, comfortable, and still like you.

Can my partner be included in my maternity photos?

Absolutely. I love when partners are part of maternity sessions. Some of the sweetest photos are the ones of both parents together, holding the baby bump, laughing, walking, and soaking in this season before the baby arrives.

Do you photograph maternity and newborn sessions in Richmond?

Yes. Munhoz Photography photographs maternity and newborn sessions in Richmond, Midlothian, Powhatan, and surrounding Virginia areas. Many families choose to document both maternity photos and lifestyle newborn photos so they can remember the full story from pregnancy to baby’s first days at home.
