Rebecca and Marcelo are so dear to my heart, and I truly felt blessed to capture such a beautiful chapter of their lives. Photographing their maternity session reminded me once again why I love being a Richmond photographer.
Before heading to the mountains, we made our first stop at Chaps Ice Cream in Charlottesville and what a fun, vibrant beginning to their maternity session! This iconic ice cream parlor has such a vintage vibe, complete with a cardboard cutout of Bob Ross, an old-school jukebox, and the most colorful ice cream scoops you can imagine.
Not only did the ice cream look amazing, but it tasted just as good. The entire Chaps team was incredibly welcoming, and I couldn’t have been happier to photograph such a meaningful start to the day in such a playful location.
I have to say that from the very beginning, Rebecca dreamed of a wide-open landscape, soft golden light, and a backdrop that was iconic. After reviewing a few options together, we knew there was no better place than Shenandoah National Park.
Even though it was a five-hour drive for them, the mountains were calling, and it was absolutely worth every mile. This park is one of Virginia’s treasures, and as a Virginia family photographer, I can confidently say it’s one of the most breathtaking places to document such meaningful milestones.
On the day of the session, Rebecca and Marcelo were blessed with the perfect weather. The sun dipped behind the mountains just in time to give us the dreamiest golden hour, followed by a cinematic sunset that painted the sky in shades of orange and pink. It was unforgettable!
