Family of four during a spring session at Maymont park in richmond Va

The Wargos | Photographer in Richmond

There are sessions that stay with me, not just for the photos we create, but for the people I get to meet and reconnect with. The Wargo family is one of those. I photographed them for the first time two years ago, when they were just a family of three. We met at Shiplock Park in downtown Richmond, and we had the absolute best time together. Their little boy was so full of energy and curiosity, and I remember how much love and ease there was between them.

So when Michelle reached out this year to update their family photos (now as a family of four!), I was beyond excited. I couldn’t wait to see them again and meet their newest little guy. There’s something really special about getting to photograph a family over the years, watching them grow, change, and settle into each new season together. It’s honestly one of the most rewarding parts of being a Richmond photographer.

We met at Maymont Park on a spring Sunday morning, and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. There’s something so peaceful about Maymont in the morning... the light was soft, the breeze was gentle, and it gave us the perfect backdrop to just wander and let the kids be kids. We started at the fountain (one of my favorite little pockets of beauty in the park), then made our way through the Italian Garden and finally stopped under the most beautiful tree at Maymont. If you know me, you know which one I’m talking about, the one I always gravitate toward. It felt like the perfect place to wrap up a session that already felt like such a gift.

What I love most about the Wargo family is this deep, genuine joy between them, an excitement for just being together. Michelle and her husband are the kind of parents who speak life into their boys. You can feel it. They’re patient, kind, and always encouraging the kids to explore, to be brave, to be themselves. I found myself smiling the entire time I was around them, and not just because of the sweet moments I was capturing, but because their energy is just that contagious.

And let me tell you, their boys… they are full of that wild, pure-hearted spirit that only kids seem to carry. Being around them reminded me once again why I love what I do. These little ones teach us so much about being present, about joy, about courage. They inspire me every single time.

I already can’t wait for our next session together! This time, an extended family session right after the Fourth of July. I’ll get to meet the whole family, and if it’s anything like our past two sessions, I know it’s going to be full of love, laughter, and beautiful moments I’ll be honored to preserve.
