Because I really, really do.
I have photographed Isabel and her family through so many different seasons, and somehow every session with them becomes another one I cannot wait to share.
This time, it was just Isabel and Miranda in front of my camera for the sweetest mom and daughter photography session in Richmond, Virginia.
And when I say sweet…
I mean the kind of session that makes me want to cry a little while editing it.
Because Miranda was about to be promoted to BIG SISTER.
And somehow, this little girl managed to make the entire session even more special just by being completely herself.
Sweet.
Funny.
Confident.
Full of personality.
And apparently a professional model now?!
I mean… look at her.
A Mom and Daughter Photography Before Their Family Grew in Richmond
There is something so special about documenting your family right before everything changes.
At the time of this session, Isabel was preparing to welcome another baby girl, which meant these photos captured one of the last little chapters of life with just her and Miranda.
Soon, Miranda would have a new title.
Big sister.
And Isabel would be a mom of two.
But for this little moment, it was simply the two of them.
Laughing together.
Snuggling.
Playing.
And getting to celebrate the relationship they already had before their family grew again.
Sometimes we think family photography has to wait for the baby to arrive, for everyone to be together, or for a specific milestone.
But there is so much beauty in documenting the season before the milestone too
.
Because it will never look quite like this again.
Why Mom and Daughter Photos Are So Special
As a Richmond family photographer, I photograph families together all the time.
And I absolutely love it.
But there is something different about intentionally creating photographs of a mom with her children. Moms are so often the ones taking the photos. Planning them. Making sure everyone looks good. Saving the memories. And somehow, they can end up missing from so many of them.
That is one of the reasons I love photographing motherhood so much.
Your children deserve photographs of what it felt like to be loved by you. The way you held them. The way they climbed into your arms. The way they looked at you. The little expressions and mannerisms you see every single day right now but may not remember quite as clearly ten years from now.

One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is getting invited back.
Again.

And again.
There is something so meaningful about watching a family grow through my camera.
I get to see the babies become toddlers. The toddlers become big siblings. The couples become parents. And the family photos slowly add another little person.
With Isabel and her family, this season was especially fun because this mom and daughter session was only the beginning.

The Beauty of Photographing the “In-Between”
I talk a lot about photographing milestones.
Pregnancy.
Newborn days.
Birthdays.
Family anniversaries.
But sometimes my favorite photographs come from the moments in between all of those things.
This session was one of them. It was not just about taking pretty mom and daughter pictures.
It was about remembering who they were together at that exact moment. Before baby sister arrived.
Before their routines changed. Before Miranda officially became the big sister.
It is such a small chapter when you think about the entire story of a family. But that is exactly why it is worth documenting. Because one day, these are the pictures that will remind them:
