This fall, I had the sweetest honor of photographing the Lee Family’s reunion at Maymont and what a joyful afternoon it was!

Jisoo reached out to me to capture her family all together, with part of them visiting from Korea, and I couldn’t feel more grateful to be the one documenting such a special time.

There was laughter, hugs, beautiful outfits, and the kind of joy that reminds me why I love what I do. The entire session had this soft film-like vibe that I just LOVE, golden light, laughter, and that sense of togetherness that you can almost feel through the photos.

I’ll always have a soft spot for extended family sessions.

These photos become the visual heirlooms your children and grandchildren will one day look back on. They show what love looked like, how connection felt, and how beautiful it is to have everyone in one frame.

As a Richmond Photographer, I’ve learned that these moments are truly once-in-a-lifetime. It’s not easy to get everyone together, but when you do... it’s always worth it.

A few things I always recommend:

Coordinate, don’t match.
Stick with 2–3 colors that blend naturally together (like creams, blues, and soft greens). It creates a clean, timeless look without feeling forced.
Choose a spacious location.
Maymont is one of my favorite places in Richmond for extended families! There’s room to move, soft light everywhere, and plenty of variety for group and candid shots.
Don’t worry about posing!
Photographing big groups is actually one of my specialties (thank you, wedding photography experience! 😉). I’ll guide everyone from start to finish... no stress!

The Lee family brought so much grace and joy to their shoot. Their outfits, the light, the way they laughed together during ha-ha-ha moments... it all came together so beautifully.

By the end, it felt like I’d spent the afternoon with old friends. And that’s exactly what I love about being a photographer... photographing families who make me feel like part of theirs, even just for a day.
