Best Locations to Photograph in Richmond, VA | Family Photographer

Date is set, outfits put together, everybody excited for the session, but the location is still pending. Where to go? As you already know about me, I'm a sunset chaser and love to photograph outdoors. In this post I'll walk you through my favorite places for photography sessions in Richmond!

1.) Midlothian Mines Park

Located in Chesterfield County, the park is the first major industrial site in the US. The ruins of the mines along with the preserved nature and lake add a beautiful touch to the images. I mean, look at this landscape! Perfect for family photos and maternity sessions.

Address: 13301 N Woolridge Rd, Midlothian, VA 23114

2.) Belle Isle

The city park lies on the James River in Downtown Richmond. If you're looking for the tall grass look, nature and the river in the background, here's your spot! Lots of places to explore although you will have to walk a little bit to get there. It's totally worth it! Best for family sessions and engagement photos.

Address: Belle Isle, via the Belle Isle Pedestrian Bridge under the Lee Bridge. Parking in lot off Tredegar St.

3.) VMFA

In the list of the largest museums of North America, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is the perfect location to more of a city style session. You will get a fancy look from the beautiful museum architecture, the outdoor gardens and the versatility to even photograph inside the location. Recommended for senior portraits, family photos and engagement.

Address: 200 N Arthur Ashe Blvd, Richmond, VA 23220

4.) University of Richmond

This is my favorite place in RVA, not only for photos but to sit by the lake and enjoy the view. The UofR has many different scenarios from lake to bricks and white pillars. The sunset by the bridge during fall is breathtaking. Best for families, engagement, kid's photography.

Address: 410 Westhampton Way, Richmond, VA 23173

5.) Canal Walk Murals

This location is fun, bright and you will have a touch of art to your pictures with the murals on the background. I love the way the light goes through the open roof and give the images a beautiful pattern of colors. Best for graduation pictures, engagements session and seniors.

Address: 1201 Haxall Point, Richmond, VA 23219

6.) Great Shiplock Park

Last but not least (I have many other great locations - so shoot me a message), the train track with nature gives to this location a countryside style to the session. The contrast between city and nature is the cherry! Best for family pictures, kid's portraits, couples.

Address: 2803 Dock St, Richmond, VA 23223
