Ashley's Senior Portraits | Richmond Photographer
Photographing Ashley was the kind of session that stays with you.
As a Richmond photographer, I’ve had the honor of working with so many incredible seniors over the years — but Ashley’s session hit differently. Just before she graduated, we met at the Capitol for her senior portraits… and just before she took one of the most courageous steps a young woman can take: joining the United States Marine Corps.
Ashley is bold, compassionate, full of heart — and fun fact? She’s a photographer herself. Watching her in front of the lens (while knowing she’s about to step into a uniform with so much strength and purpose) gave me chills. She brought her full self to the session — joy, elegance, vulnerability, pride — and it was beautiful to witness.
A Senior Session Full of Meaning
We chose the Virginia State Capitol as our backdrop, and it couldn’t have been more fitting. The timeless white columns and historic setting gave us a mix of classic architecture and emotional weight — the perfect place to capture Ashley’s story.
Her parents joined the session, which made the experience even more memorable. We laughed, we posed, we soaked up the moment… and yes, we cried. Because when you’re documenting a season like this — the end of one chapter and the brave beginning of another — emotions run deep.
What to Expect from a Senior Portrait Session in Richmond
Whether you’re heading to college, the military, or straight into your dream career, your senior year deserves to be documented with purpose. As a Richmond photographer, I help you plan a session that reflects who you are — and where you’re going.
Ashley chose two looks: one soft and timeless, the other bold and full of confidence. We walked through the Capitol grounds, found the light, and let the story unfold.
Planning Your Senior Session
Here are a few tips if you’re planning your own senior photo session in Richmond:
Location matters: From the Capitol to Libby Hill, Belle Isle to the VMFA — there are so many incredible places for senior portraits in Richmond.
Bring your people: Parents, siblings, or even your dog — they’re part of your story too.
Outfit variety: Two outfits can give you range — think one classic, one bold.
Show who you are: Whether it’s your future plans, your hobbies, or your favorite book — bring those details into the shoot.
Ashley, I’m So Proud of You
I truly believe the world needs more women like Ashley. Brave. Honest. Committed. Full of heart. It was an honor to photograph her senior portraits, and I have no doubt she’ll shine — as a Marine and as a photographer.
