Sophia's Senior Portraits | Richmond Photographer
I’m just tempted to post a thousand images on this blog post – because I definitely would’ve loaded you all up with Sophia’s AMAZING senior session.
Photographing Sophia's senior portrait session was such a blessing. She’s smart, beautiful, full of personality, and we had the dreamiest golden hour (after dodging a surprise spring rainstorm — thank you, Richmond forecast). But in the end? The light, the vibe, the energy… everything came together. And it got me thinking:
Whether you’re booking senior portraits or searching for “places to take pictures near me for prom,”, or even "senior photographers near me" there are a few things that can make your session extra memorable. So here we go:
1. Choose a location that feels like you
I always say – your senior portraits should look like YOU. If you love open fields and dreamy light, we’ll chase that golden hour. If you’re more into city vibes, let’s wander downtown. The key is choosing a location that feels comfortable and reflects your personality.
Here are some of my favorite senior portrait spots in Richmond, VA:
Maymont Park – dreamy gardens, stone steps, and natural light
Libby Hill Park – classic RVA skyline views
VMFA / Museum District – clean lines, modern architecture, and classy energy
Byrd Park / Fountain Lake – peaceful nature meets city charm
Downtown alleyways & mural walls – perfect if you want an edgy or artistic vibe
These locations also make beautiful backdrops for your prom portraits too – especially golden hour at Maymont or Libby Hill!
2. Plan 2 outfits: One fun, one timeless
I recommend bringing two outfits:
→ One that’s playful and expressive (something you’d wear to hang out with friends or go to prom!)
→ One that’s classic and clean (think neutral tones, minimal patterns – something that’ll age well in photos 10 years from now)
And yes, I’ll help you style both with my Style and Location Guide. Bonus tip? Bring accessories or props you love – sunglasses, flowers, or even your future college sweatshirt!
3. Hair and makeup matter (but keep it real)
You don’t have to hire a professional, but it definitely helps — especially for smoothing flyaways and enhancing your features for camera. But more than anything, make sure you still feel like you. Go for enhanced natural beauty over anything overly glam.
4. Trust the weather (and your photographer)
Sophia and I were greeted by rain right when we arrived – and then? The skies cleared, the sun peeked through, and we had one of the best golden hours of the season. Moral of the story: we plan what we can… but magic often happens when you trust the process.
5. Your senior year deserves to be celebrated
This is such a huge moment in your life — you’re closing one chapter and stepping into something brand new. Senior portraits are about capturing who you are right now. And I promise, you’re going to want to remember this.
Sophia – thank you again for letting me tell a piece of your story. Charleston is so lucky to have you!
If you’re a senior or parent searching for a Richmond photographer who will cheer you on, hype you up, and capture every bit of your personality – I’m your girl!
